Mathematical Formula & Variables
Equation Model
BMR (Male) = 10 * weight_kg + 6.25 * height_cm - 5 * age + 5The Mifflin-St Jeor equation computes resting metabolic expenditure based on physiological sex, age, weight, and vertical height.
Variable Definitions
| Symbol | Description |
|---|---|
| BMR | Basal Metabolic Rate in kcal/day |
| weight_kg | Weight in kilograms |
| height_cm | Height in centimeters |
| age | Age in years |
How to Use the BMR Calculator

Practical Example Calculation
Scenario Context: Calculating the BMR of a 30-year-old male who stands 180 cm tall and weighs 80 kg.
Step 1: Multiply weight in kg by 10: 80 * 10 = 800.
Step 2: Multiply height in cm by 6.25: 180 * 6.25 = 1,125.
Step 3: Multiply age in years by 5: 30 * 5 = 150.
Step 4: Apply Male constant (+5): 800 + 1,125 - 150 + 5 = 1,780.
The Mifflin-St Jeor BMR is 1,780 kcal per day.
