Halal Stock Screening & Dividend Purification Example

Scenario Context: An investor owns shares in a technology company with $10B Market Cap, $1.5B Debt (15%), $2.0B Cash (20%), $5B Revenue, and $100M in treasury interest income (2.0% of revenue). The investor received $2,500 in dividends.

Step 1: Debt-to-Market Cap Ratio: $1.5B / $10B = 15.0% (Passes AAOIFI < 33% limit).
Step 2: Cash-to-Market Cap Ratio: $2.0B / $10B = 20.0% (Passes AAOIFI < 33% limit).
Step 3: Non-Permissible Revenue Ratio: $100M / $5.0B = 2.0% (Passes AAOIFI < 5.0% limit). Status: Sharia Compliant Stock.
Step 4: Dividend Purification Calculation: $2,500 Total Dividends × 2.0% Impure Revenue = $50.00.
Step 5: The investor retains $2,450.00 as halal income and donates $50.00 to charitable causes.
The stock passes all AAOIFI screening standards. Required dividend purification donation is $50.00.
